Who is City Church Greenville?
Where we've been and where we're headed...
We began in September 2019 at the Greenville Middle School. However, when the bond issue passed we needed to find a new location by March of 2020. After prayerfully seeking God, He opened a new door for us. Through some very exciting meetings we decided to move into a shared location with the First United Methodist Church of Greenville. We were in the process of moving in when Covid-19 hit and everything was shut down. We went online and then eventually to Frugthaven Farm. From there a very special relationship was formed with the Petersen's which last year translated into us purchasing 4 acres from them to build our new home. We signed papers in May 2023 and purchased the land with the dome and office building. Since then we had been in a building campaign to raise the 3 million dollars necessary to complete the project. .
While this project was under construction God opened another door with Flat River Academy. To allow for growth, better parking, and service time we decided to move to a 10 am service there. On August 31, 2025 we had our last service as a portable church. Our new location is complete and we moved in Sept 7th to our new permanent home that the Lord has generously provided. This has an incredible story of its own, ultimately with God getting the glory each step of the way.
We will continue to move with the Holy Spirit at City Church Greenville. We believe that God is going before us in everything that we do, ordering the steps of where He wants us to be. As we are obedient to his promptings, we know blessing will follow.
We desire to continue to reach people who have lost hope, point them to a loving God and disciple them so they can also be a light and witness to our community.
We provide the following blessings to those in and around our city through food ministry to close to 100 families weekly, free school assemblies monthly for all elementary and Middle school kids in Greenville, mentorships at all schools, outreach events, and more.
That's us, An Inside Out Community.

HOW IT ALL STARTED...
In 2003 Pastor Doug and Caryn Bergsma followed a call to plant a church in Rockford, Michigan. It began as a portable church in a school as Resurrection Life Worship Center. Later, after moving to where it is now located, the name was changed to Resurrection Life Church Rockford.
In 2015 God began to lay upon our hearts the need to take what we had been given and go. We followed that call to move outside the walls of our church and began to give back wherever was needed. We became a community of people living inside out.
As we jumped in, God laid bigger things on Pastor Doug and Pastor Tim's hearts, and in 2018 they announced the desire to plant another church in Greenville, Michigan.
Now Pastor Tim Simon, as Campus Pastor oversees all the teams, the vision direction of our church, and the day to day operations. Pastor Chad Zudweg is our teaching pastor, preaching week to week. After looking at many campus and church plant models, we have determined this setup to be most effective in caring for all the people in our church and the healthiest for our staff.

WHAT WE BELIEVE
THE TRIUNE GOD
We believe in the one Triune God - One God in three distinct persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:26, Matthew 3:16-17). We believe that He is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. (Psalm 139:7-12, Luke 18:27, Psalm 139:2-6).
THE GOSPEL
We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin conception, His sinless life, and His miracles. We believe that He took the punishment for our sins when He was put to death on the cross, and was resurrected on the third day and ascended to the right hand of the Father. This was His complete conquest over the powers of Satan.
THE CHURCH
The Church consists of all who truly believe in Jesus Christ and in His atoning death and trust in Him as their personal Lord and Savior. (Romans 10:9-10). We believe that Christ’s death on the cross brings forgiveness of sins for those who receive it by faith. (John 3:16, Romans 10:9-10). We believe that healing is provided for our spirit, soul, and body because of what Christ has done for us. (1 Peter 2:24).
BAPTISM
We believe in Water Baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We also take part in the baptism of the Holy Spirit, who enables us to live Godly lives. (Acts 2:38, Mark 16:15-16, Ephesians 1:13, 2 Corinthians 1:21-22, Romans 8:16). We believe that all the gifts of the Holy Spirit, in 1 Corinthians 12, are available and for use in the body of Christ.
FAMILY
We believe in the traditional Biblical viewpoint that marriage is a union between one man and one woman, and that sexual union should only take place within the context of the marriage relationship. (Genesis 1:28, Genesis 2: 24, Ephesians 5:31-32, Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:18-32, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, 1 Corinthians 7:2). We believe in the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception to natural death. (Gen 1:26-28, Gen 2:7, Ps 139:13-16, Ps 127:3-5). We value all human life, which is created in the image of God, and stand to protect innocent life. We also believe in the sanctity of each person’s God given biological gender which is determined at conception. (Gen 1:27-28, Gen 2:18-24, Ps 139:13-16).
ETERNITY
We believe in Christ’s imminent return, and the resurrection of every human being; those who truly believe in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior will enter eternal life with God. While those who have not accepted Jesus will enter into eternal punishment and separation from God. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, Romans 6:5).

the vision...
Why City Church? City defines an area. The name is inspired by Matthew 5:14 where Jesus says we are like a “City on a hill”.
We want to be the church that helps transform our communities and cities by showing the love and grace of God. We do this in tangible ways and by being what God called us to be - servants.
Being an Inside-Out Church sees us caring for our communities by meeting them outside of our four walls, where they are.
